Using golf training aids in your golf game is a good practice. There are training aids for everything from putting to hitting a driver. How about the training aids that you use on your body to keep yourself connected or lined up on the target line correctly. The only problem is, there seems to be confusion as to how the wrist cocks in the backswing. This especially true for beginners, because the wrist cock needs to be felt. Take a look at Greg Norman’s Secret. If you watch the infomercial, you might pick up the fact that your right wrist shouldn’t be moving much at all. It’s movement is fixed. The stationary piece of plastic won’t allow any back and forth movement of the hand, only a slight raising of the thumb towards the wrist. Greg even tells you that the wrist cock is like shaking hands with someone. I want you to take this feeling with you. Try to keep the ‘V’ of your right thumb and forefinger pointed at your right shoulder all the way through the swing. This feeling will allow your wrists to hinge naturally.

Then there’s the Medicus. It doesn’t matter if you want to talk about the iron or the driver. That shouldn’t matter much to you. What you need to pick up on is how the hinge is oriented to the club face. The hinge is facing the same way as face of the club. So if you were to break your wrist backwards on itself, wouldn’t the hinge on the Medicus also break. The only way to take the club back without making the hinge break is to cock the wrist upwards. Watch the Medicus infomercial sometime and try to pick out the feeling that you are trying to achieve with this training aid.

The next time that you’re watching The Golf Channel and you see an infomercial from one of the golf training aids mentioned, take the time to really watch it. Study what it is about the training aid that is helping golfers improve. Are you feeling the same thing that the training aid is trying to teach? Are you making your golf game more complicated by cocking your wrists too much? Or the wrong way?

There is not a beginner anywhere who would not want to hit their driver better. A great drive will set up the hole perfectly and is also very gratifying. Here are a couple of tips to improve your set-up position when hitting your driver. First of all, make sure that at least 60 percent of your weight is on your back foot at address. Second make sure that the end of your club’s grip points at the middle of your body.

The reason you would like to have the grip pointing that way is that it helps promote the sweeping action necessary for a driver swing, allowing you to hit up on the ball. If the end of the grip is not pointing at the middle of your body, you may be prone to press forward with your hands. That causes more of a chopping action with the driver – you have seen the divots on par 5 tee boxes – as opposed to the preferable sweeping action.

There are two swing keys that will help you to hit your driver long and true. First of all, make a full turn on your back swing, turning your back to the target and coiling into your back leg. Do you often lose your balance in your golf swing? If you do, here’s what you can do about it.

First of all, you need to understand that the way you setup to the golf ball dictates to a large degree the balance that you’ll have during your golf swing. And so here is how to achieve a balanced posture position from which to start your golf swing.

1st.

Stand up straight with your feet about shoulder width apart, then

2nd.

Take the straightness out of your knees, then…

3rd.

Place a club along your spine, and then

4th.

Bend forward making sure that your spine remains straight. It’s very important when doing this golf drill that your backside moves back as this helps to create a balanced golf posture position. You want your weight to be on the balls of your feet when you’re setup and it won’t be unless you follow the steps I’ve suggested.

And finally…..

5th.

Once you’ve bent over (by moving your backside back and keeping your back straight) the next step is to move your left hip (right hip for lefties) slightly towards your target. When you do this it automatically positions your head behind the ball, which is just where you want it.

Once in this golf posture position you can place a club on the ground in a position to hit a ball, and you probably will have to either bend over more or stand up straighter depending on what club you are using. For example, when you’re using a wedge you’ll have to bend over more than you would for a driver because a wedge is quite a bit shorter than a driver is.

Then once you’ve done this exercise and you’re setup then get someone to lightly push on both shoulders from behind and in front. Because doing this will help you to set your weight to the insides of both feet which is where the weight should be. Then get your partner to push lightly on your back and if you fall over it’s because your weight is too far forward, so set your weight more back on the balls of your feet.

When you’re in balance you’ll find that when someone gives you a slight push you’ll be steady as a rock, and this should be your aim. So do the posture exercise and test yourself until you pass. When you do, your balance will be a lot better during your golf swing.

Here I am going to give you 3 golf iron tips that you can take to the course and start playing better golf right away.

1. The first thing that I want to share with you is exactly how irons work, and how to use the design to your advantage. Of course different irons have different lofts, but most people do not realize that trying to help the ball in the air will actually not help you at all. This is because when you strike a golf ball with a descending blow with an iron, the ball spins up the face causing it to go higher. This is what you want; a descending blow instead of hitting up on the golf ball.

2. The second aspect is to make sure that you have the correct ball position. Typically your driver should be even with your left heel, which means the five irons should be about 2 inches behind that. you move the ball accordingly for each iron, with the 9 iron being in about the middle of the stance.

3. The third thing that you need to do is focus on your tempo. This is really true with all clubs, but important with irons because most irons are steel shafts, and thus we try to hit them harder but one of the best golf iron tips I have heard is to swing smooth and keep your head on the ball.

I’m convinced that the golf setup is so important for chipping, let alone pitching. This is where it has to be just perfect, when you’re all ready to pull that trigger.

So, let’s go over the golf setup step by step, so the next time you go out you’ll have a better idea how to stand to the golf ball.

If you’re wanting to pitch the golf ball up, you take a lofted golf club with you; okay, a pitching wedge, a sand wedge, or any of your wedges.

The second thing in the golf setup, is that the ball doesn’t have to go right in the middle of your stance. If you’ve been struggling, put it in the middle of your stance. But if you want to hit it a little softer and higher, you could put it just a hair forward in your stance.

So, you now have the ball position from center to just forward.

The next part is put 60%, 70% of your weight on your left leg, and when you do that push the handle over.

Now, that’s how simple it is: ball in the middle, a little bit of weight on your left leg, maybe 70%, and then push the handle over.

What that’s going to do, and here’s the tip of all tips. When you start your backswing, make sure that your arms start back, but don’t slide your body. This will make you hit the ground behind it, top it, or skull it over the green.

So, again, weight on the left leg, the handle’s on the left side. Let the arms go away from you without your body moving.

This golf setup will enable you to hit down on it a little bit and not up on it where you would skull it.

Now, let’s spend a couple minutes on learning a golf instruction swing tip on how to control the different distances that you want your pitch shots to travel.

Now, when you chip you have one golf swing, so your control is from the different golf clubs that you use. If you want to hit a short chip, use a 9 iron. If you want to hit a long chip, you’ll need to use a 5 iron.

But when you pitch, you change your golf swing, not just the club you use. It’s pretty simple but it’s not easy to do. You have to practice it.

The first golf instruction swing tip is if you want a small pitch, your golf club goes parallel to the ground in the backswing. That’s the length that it goes. So, when it’s right at parallel, I’m pretty sure you can tell it’s not up in the air and it’s not just that far back. But it’s parallel.

If you want to pitch it a little bit further, take it back where the shaft is sticking in the ground. The butt of the club is ticking straight down, and this will go a little bit further.

And lastly is when you take a full golf swing but just with the arms, not with the body. That’s your longest pitch shot.

See, I have three wedges. So, I have a 60-degree, my sand wedge, and a pitching wedge. Each wedge has 3 different shots so I have 9 shots total.

If you own two wedges and three different length backswings, that’s six golf shots you have in your bag.
