hi shawn,
i saw Edfords at the irish open on TV yesterday. He duffed a chip shot in the final holes of the last round. The commentator said he did not not use the clubs back edge properly for the shot– ? can you explain what he might mean? ( the shot was short 15 yard chip and the club seemed to dig into the wet turf –the ball only went 5 yards)
cheers

Hi Shaw, I had almost the perfect round today hit every fairway and irons were great my chipping killed me. I usually use a 58 degree wedge and attack the pin but because the weather is better the greens are faster so I used 9 iron for bump and run which club to you recommend around the fringe of the green or 30 yrds in, love ur lessons by the way.

very nice tip and the idea of comparing your practice to the shot for momentum is refreshingly helpful. Thanks, DC (index 15)

timrocket007 September 9, 2010 at 10:56 am

aim in front of the ball

clemshaw September 9, 2010 at 3:26 pm

This video was more on technique, the key once you have it is to use momentum to execute; have a look at the “Chip Yips” and “Ball Bearings and sockets” videos to round out the equation; Shawn

Hi Bill!

I had a lesson yesterday, and I tend to hit my chips fat and it was because i was de-accelerated on the downswing. Try it out.

skylabap September 12, 2010 at 7:40 pm

Shawn, I have a tendency to dip and hit fat shots. You don’t talk about keeping your head still on these short shots, how important do you think that is?
Thanks,
Bill

I had a chip on hole 18 in a competition, then I was scared to hit it to long, but when I did take the chip it was to short…is the secret to never hit it to short or something like that? Think it is stay calm;)

I understand what you mean and this is why I have other videos on chipping; have a look at the “Chip Yips” video as well as the “Uphill Chip” from the “You Tube Shawn” page of my website…Thanks for your comment, Shawn

Hí Clem
To my opinion a chip should start with letting the body move the club! Passive arms and hands! But there is many way to dance a tango!
Thanks!

Shawn: Just want to say thank you very much for ALL of the videos you have done. There is no saving me, I’m a lost cause. But my kids, 12 and 9, have benefitted soooooo much from learning from you. You have meant a great deal to them, and me, in the development of their game. We will be getting your instructional DVD around Xmas time to help whet out appetite for golfing during our cold Chicago winter. Again, thanks. You are the MAN!
